This is a small, fast dm/ffa/insta map me and Jake made in about 10 hours not including extra details. However those "10 Hours" stretched over a period of 4 days but the end result is awsome. It has been play-tested thoroughly and I think it's absolutely perfect. Flows well and has good gameplay and looks good although it doesn't have as much details as some maps but it still looks ok. I HIGHLY suggest not exceeding more than 4 players on this map.
About the Quake texture (The moving space in the portals) I have recently been told by maddog39 that people do, in fact, have permission to use quake textures from ID Software as long as you don't try to sell it which I'm not in less you want to buy it in which case I'll have to decline =D In any case he mentioned something about it being on the Enemy Territory Quake Wars Forums or something so I'm assuming theres written proof that we have permission but I don't have it on me. Anyway Enjoy the map! =D
UPDATE Monday, July 14, 2008: Fixed lighting and added some bookshelves for personality.
I really can't decide whether to give a 4 or a 5.
I can't find anything glaringly wrong with the map, but nothing stands out too much either. The snow/cold theme isn't done too much (so I like that you did it) and I like the texture job. There might be a few places I would detail differently, but that is simply my opinion.
Overall, it is a very good map I believe, but just simply not something to go "holy shit" over. Sorry.
edit: I also had a very strong urge to jump out of the windows all the time... heh.
You can do "trick jumps" out of the windows in 5 places.
Also I know theres some spots that needed like some sort of flag or something but I couldn't think of anything to put there and nonone else complained about it so I just left it. Also does a map have to be a "holy shit" thing to get into the package? Doubt it seeing as how kalking1 got in.
Yeah I noticed the trick jumps.
I would think this map has a good chance of getting in.
Anyway, I thought about it and gave a 5. I can't explain how I decided heh... Mostly because there is just nothing wrong.
One thing you could try doing is coloring it up slightly with varying lights a little more. Just a guess.
Well, coloring the lights differently wouldnt look right. The light source is the sun and the reflecting light off the snow on the mountains. So i dont see how you could make different colors unless we made different light sources (which im not going to be able to do because i have a few maps im doing right now and im gunna be away for a while). Also, i have no ideas for light sources on this map. Very unlikely that colored lights will be added. But thank you for deciding on the 5 stars.
snow is pretty white. naturally..... unless some unnatural light source is shining on it. i honestly thought this was a very good map. nice textures, nice item placement, great feel, and also easy to get used to. played it and thought it was a very good map overall. great work dairy and jake!!! 5/5
