This is a walkthrough of the editing features of sauer.
Here is some random info on sauer:
Sauerbraten is an open
source game engine in its initial stages of development. It is quite
similar to cube (www.cubengine.com) in that it allows for in-game
editing of maps,
which allows for quick and fun mapping. Sauerbraten allows for much
more complex geometric shapes than cube, this gives the mapper more
freedom to create what they want.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
-Windows or Linux or BSD or
any other OS that will compile it. :)
-A modern video card with openGL support and the latest drivers.
(geforce, radeon (catalyst 5.3 drivers), intel, sis (if you are lucky),
etc.)
-450mhz processor (pentium 3 or equivalent AMD or Celeron processor)
-128mb ram
-25mb hard drive space
-scroll mouse (You can make Sauer use your keyboard instead)
-keyboard
Now you should have a flat boring map to build upon, like this:

Try flying around to get used to it. Then look directly down on the
nice texture on the ground like this:

You can now use your left mouse button and mouse to highlight some cube
faces like this (Aim like a gun. You can release the lmb once you are
finished and your selection will stay there):

You can now start to create/move some cubes.(select the cubes then...)
Scroll up, then down to get an idea of how it works.
This should happen:

You can select any face of a cube. This allows you to do things like
this:

Now, just say you want really big or small cubes, you can use the "g" +
"scroll" feature of sauerbraten to change the grid size. Hold down "g"
then scroll forward or back to get the correct grid size. If you don't
understand check out these pics:

Maybe you want to deform a cube. "q" + "scroll" will deform the corner you are aiming at. You can also use "scroll" to deform your current selection (can be a corner, a cube or many cubes) You should be able to do
something like this: (i changed the texture on some cubes)

To change the texture of a side of a cube (or selection of cubes).
Select them, then use the "t" + "scroll" command to change the texture
to one you like. (see above pic)
To use lighting, type ~newent light lightradius red green blue. eg for a white light that has a medium sized radius type ~newent light 200 255 255 255. Lighting needs to be calculated before it shows up in your map. You can find the calculating function + other lighting settings in the lighting section of the "editing" menu. pic (old lighting model):

you can use the scroll button (held down) to select cube corners. These can then be pushed and pulled by using the scroll button (by scrolling up and down). pic:

If you want to rotate a cube use "r" + "scroll". Each time you scroll
it moves 90 degrees.
Some other editing buttons are:
z - undo last action
space - deselect cubes
c - copy selection
v - paste copied selection
x - flip selected cube
e - to get into and out of editing mode (for playtesting, etc.)
That is it. (Now would be a good time to save your map and add your
name to it)
You can now know the editing features of sauerbraten. Have
fun mapping.
If you find any bugs or have any trouble doing something, go to
www.cubeengine.com and
click on forums.
Well, knew it would happen sooner or later. Now I gotta hack the propstar script to allow * rating of news articles.
